14th & Swann Night & Day

Base Rendering

Night

Day

The bottom two renderings were completed using primarily Photoshop with the base rendering coming from v-ray for rhino. I began by selecting an appropriate view of the building on site which showed some of the surrounding context. Then once in Photoshop I chose to make a night & daytime rendering because they contrasted the most from one another as rain looked very similar. While I included the context, I did not focus on articulating it as I wanted the building to stand out greatly. I began with the night rendering, choosing a sky at dusk and changing the color saturation to best fit the time of day. Interestingly enough, the sky is actually the same for both renderings, with the daytime rendering brightened drastically. Using the VFB channel images from rhino I was able to articulate a soft interior lighting in the night rendering while darkening the surrounding walls by changing the opacity of a black layer. In addition, I added foliage to the renderings as well as scaled figures to better illustrate how people interacted with the building.
The greatest change between the renderings are the shadows, lens flare, and intensity of light on the sides of the building. It was very informational learning Photoshop, and I could easily spend several more hours further improving the renderings & experimenting with different techniques.
